Facial flushing. Red flare up. Tiny blood vessels visible on the face. Spots. Irritation. Any of these sound familiar? If this sounds like your day to day skin you may be suffering from what we call Acne Rosacea which is a chronic, inflammatory skin condition which principally affects the face. Sometimes accompanied by small red pus-filled pustules (bumps).
But fret no more because we have some top tips on how to treat this embarrassing skin condition. Firstly we need to avoid water on our skin as much as possible, especially hot water. And yes I even mean in the shower. The chemicals in the water make the condition worse and dry out the skin, ever wondered why your skin gets even redder after a shower? If you can start using a non-soap gel cleanser and remove the gel with cotton disks then you are foiling the secret culprit! Check out Juliette Armand’s Sensitive Cleansing Gel.
The next step is to avoid over exfoliating and in some severe cases to avoid exfoliating altogether! Harsh scrubs and acids will only thin the skin even further and cause the broken capillaries to worsen and become redder. An SPF is a must with Rosacea as a lot of the time it has been caused by sun damage in the first place. Remember UVA is around all year!
Next we need to ensure we use a serum and moisturiser to act as a barrier for our skin, Rosacea skin is thin, easily irritated, dry, flaky and may be the shape of a butterfly and cover the cheeks and nose. The environment is out to get your skin too so there needs to be protection! The Juliette Armand vitamin B complex serum is perfect because it contains B5 and B6 for powerful anti-inflammatory properties and the Hydra Calming Cream goes on top to seal an environmental shield over the skin and reduce blotching.
Lastly sometimes drinking alcohol or eating spicy foods can aggravate rosacea but there may be other triggers that you need to avoid. You only get one skin so make sure to love the one you are in and if making a few changes today helps the condition then it’s a step forward in the right direction.
